Looking for an outdoor activity? Travel to Salem, Massachusetts to revel in delectable chocolate and sparkling ice sculptures! A welcomed annual pre-Valentine’s Day tradition, Salem’s So Sweet Chocolate and Ice Sculpture Festival, is organized by Salem Main Streets, Salem Chamber of Commerce, and Destination Salem. Shop boutiques and emporiums. Muse in historic homes and museums. Devour and delight in quaint restaurants and sweet bakeries. All the while, strolling the walkways, alleyways, and main streets in search of glistening sculptures of ice.
Ice sculptures, by Ice Effects, were installed on Saturday, February 6th and will stay up through Saturday, February 14th, as long as the weather permits. I would advise, if you are even thinking about viewing the works of art, to do so as soon as possible. A few of the sculptures have already had some delicate parts broken off, such as, the word ‘Vikings’ in 3. Thanking All Alumni on the Front Lines, sponsored by Salem State University, the rabbits limbs in 9. Down the Rabbit Hole, sponsored by Jolie Tea Company, and the horse’s head in 8. Rocking Horse, sponsored by Maria’s Sweet Somethings.

Sorry, we missed this. But the pandemic has put the fritz on what used to be a pretty much monthly trip to Salem. Our favorite location is the front counter at the Red Line. Sipping coffee and watching the scene parade by on a Sunday morning.
